Shaoxing Rice Wine [Shaohshing Chinese Cooking Wine]

A strong wine used both for drinking and in cooking, we can only recommend substitutions due to the restrictions on alcoholic drink sales.

A pale dry sherry comes closest in flavour to shaoxing rice wine and is readily available in most leading supermarkets. Another substitution recommended by 'Li' a regular customer was Gin. This is a closer match to some of the clearer white rice wines popular in China. Li also suggests apple juice as a non alcoholic alternative.

We stress these are substitutes only and the flavour will not be an exact match to rice wine.
